  • migrating from 1.47 to 1.5

we have been using vray1.47 in our studio for a few months now and have been very satisfied with the results. we are pretty interested in migrating up to v1.5, but due to ongoing projects, we are a little concerned about trying to switch to the newer version in mid-stream.
if / when we install v1.5, will we still have the option of selecting v1.47 as our renderer? or does v1.5 completely replace the previous version? if this is the case, is it possible to easily un-install the new version to revert to v1.47 if we are having problems? ideally, i'd like to spend some time fooling around with v1.5 to make sure i have a grasp of it before committing to production work using it.
    thanks for any info...

ok, on the online help http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150R...ate_to_1_5.htm this will tell you about migrating to 1.5

1.5 will overwrite 1.47 when you install it.
It does however have a very nice functioning uninstaller.

It is possible to have both version installed, do a search here on the forum, there are a couple of threads explaining how to do so

You could install it on a spare machine for a week and copy all your current projects onto it, then open them all and give them a test render to see how they look, if anything is different you can then find out exactly what to do to get it back to that standard when you do upgrade.

you'll end up with downtime on one machine for a few days and a page of notes of things that need doing for each project until theyre re-saved, which will take no time to do.

thanks. i had read through the online help - just wasn't sure if it would replace the exisiting version.
this is still considered a "release candidate", is it not. anyone know if there is an estimated timeframe for the official release?

thats what the RC stands for

No official time frame, and I doubt you will get one either. RC3 will be released first.
