take a look at the part of the image that is circled in red. the light shold be passing through the glass sehlves on the wall. it seems to stop and the glass. a little comes through becuase there's a gap betwenn the glass and the wall, but mostly it does not pass through.

I ahve reflective as well as refractive checked on in hte inderect illumination.

do I need to turn on caustics?

Do you have "transparent shadows" checked under the vray shadow params?

        res3d,

if you are using a vray light, or shadow, it should be in the shadow setting. Make sure that "Transparent shadow" is checked.

If you are using a MAX light with no v-ray shadow, set the shadow to V-ray, and do the above.

MOREOVER, check your glass material, and (if it is a v-ray material, recomended) check the "affect shadow" option.

In *any case*, your GI will no go throu the glass unless you use caustics, OR you set the vray properties for your glass objects to "not visible to GI".

        Regards,

        gio

          light through glass

I'm am such a goof. I forgot to set the photmetric lights to vray shadows.

Question: GI light will not pass through glass unless one uses caustics or shuts hides it from GI?? is that right?

when I use caustics it evventually uses up all the ram during the "creating caustic photon map" process and crashsed the renderings when is runs out of ram.

go xp 64 and 4gb of ram.

you dont need ... caustics.. you just need to make sure that refractive GI caustics is turned on in the Gi rollout. and then make sure affect shadow is ticked in your glass material.

You dont actually need to turn on Vray caustics.

that did the trick; making the lights cast vray shadows. I also made the exterior windows invisible ti gi which allowed more light to enter the space.

                thanks for your help.
