Can't you just use the built-in vray scene converter?

Is there a Vray 1.5 material converter, from Vray material to standard? . I need to export some models for a fellow maya user and vray material doesnt get on well with FBX esport...

I tried the converter yesterday on a scene I was working on and it wasnt working - Let me try on a fresh scene - Thanks Clifton -

You need to make sure the scene is all standard scanline. If you have already turned on vray renderer or created any vray materials, it won't work.
