Why a Quad Patch? Why not just a 1x1 plane object? Your on the right track - That's pretty much what I do - I use the alpha image from a tree clip I want to use and map it onto a plane object which is sized proportionatly to the tree image, then position it correctly in the scene to cast the right shadow on the house.

Excluding it from GI is just a matter of right clicking it's properties and doing so. I try to make my objects only cast shadows and nothing more.

So this is for an animation then? I guess I never tried this technique in an animation, but I've not noticed any considerable difference in the way my GI images render out when using this technique - the shadows and areas around them still look natural?

              Most unpolite actually.

not only deleting the question, but the selfishness shown in the "nevermind, sorted" implying something like the "stupid" poeple of this forum have already forwarded to provide feedback, but now they are not needed anymore, and whatever it was that was worked out won't be shared with the forum.

This forums is and I am sure will keep on being one of the nicest places I've ever been in, guess, though, it's not possible for everybody to be nice, one rotten apple here or there are simply unavoidable.

              best regards
