I'm telling you there are no LIMITS with x64 system !!!
    x64 ERA HAD BEGAN!
This project has 20mln polys geometry plus proxy trees(i have no ida how mych whole thing could be :
With obejct display culing on it was flying in max viewports and max didn't crash

Wow that's cool. What's your system specs on that?

render time I think was something around 30 minutes maximum.
It was prepared on BOXX with 4800 X2 AMD 4GB ram 1500 Quadro
Rendered on BOXX Dual Opteron 285 4GB ram.

So I am assuming that you have Max 9 64 bit, and the new Vray is 64 bit as well??

How does it compare with Max 8, and Vray 32 bit?? Thanks.

                    Regards Peter.

                      it doesnt compare...it´s a different world...it´s great...it´s fun...it gives you a smile

I did a quick test today with teapots (converted to editable meshes no instances). And managed to do 42polys and they rendered just fine...on the same machine as before...due to the new adress space your pagefile can grow up to the skies...so it will get slower if there´s a huge page file...but it wont crash...viewport performance is generally GREAT in R9 with D3D...

                      Regards,
                      Thorsten

lol...typo devil hit me once more...42 mio of course. And that amount of teapots wouldnt have been navigatable in R8 even in bounding box mode...while it was working perfect in R9....another nice thing considering D3D performance i noticed is, that "Edged Faces" is pretty damn fast. Wireframe is still rather slow, but Edges Faces is flying...worked fine with 5.x mio polys...wich was unusable in R8 even in shaded mode due to vertex normals.

@ lukx - my system specs are similar but I'm not running a Quadro - just a 7800GTX. I did a test on cloning a teapot 1000x and the scene seemed to have dragged. Perhaps it was just the operation of cloning which made it choppy.

aye, thorsten, i found out the same thing: mesh caching seems to have been strenghtened, and while in shaded mode, edged faces has little or no impact.
On the slowest pcs, in 32 bit (like here) there is still the slight delay due to recaching of the mesh when a sufficiently dense one is deformed, but indeed is a LOT faster than it used to be.
On the plus side, too, Mr has nothing remotely close to LC yet, so our boat isn't quite rocking yet
