"Error creating Bitmap" - why?

i've been getting this several times now, different job and different pc's.

using RC2 in both locations when i use Render Elements without the VFB.

am i doing something wrong or is this a bug?

This message is typically displayed by 3dsmax when there is not enough memory to create a memory buffer for a bitmap.

Possible solutions are to use the Bitmap Pager, or to use the V-Ray VFB and render directly to a .vrimg file (e.g. with "Render to memory" off and "Render to raw image file" on for the VFB).

this happens on tiny jobs too, what sort of memory is running out? there's heaps of ram spare.

is the .vrimg stable now? i seem to remember some people having trouble with it a while back. i've never used it yet.
