  • pf + motionblur 1.5rc3 ?

the changelog say, its working now. but i cant get it to work.
in scanline, all i have to do, is e.g. set image mblur in the particle
    properties.
doesnt work in vray. so, there is vray properties with mblur subs, but rising makes no difference.

    any workarounds yet?

    thx

Here's something I sent to jonnybefree:

you need to select your pf source object in the viewport and then go to the modify panel. Under "system management" (the second last rollout) you have two controls, one is particle amount where you can set the maximum number of particles allowed, and the other is called integration step. This is the amount of times that the particles position is calculated and will control how accurate your particles are. If you set the integration step to frame, the particles position is calculated once per frame, half frame is two times per frame, 1/4 frame is four times per frame and so on.

Using a smaller integration step gives you two things, one is that the particles are a lot more accurate, the other is that it will give vray enough information to do proper 3d blur.

    1. If you are using a lot of collisions with particle flow, you may find that there are times where your particles go through your max deflector objects - this is because the calculations aren't accurate enough and some particles are getting through. If you make your integration step smaller, the collisions are calculated more times per frame and your particles will be a lot more accurate - you'll get less particles going through the deflector.

    2. Second of all, vray needs to sample the position of an object between two frames if you want to use 3d motion blur. If you have your integration step set to frame for rendering, it means that particle flow will only calculate the particles position at each frame which doesn't give vray enough information to do proper 3d blur. You need to set your integration step lower to half frame or 1/4 frame at least to give vray enough information to do proper blur. With vray motion blur set to 2 samples, it needs to sample the particle at 2 places which are the start of the frame and the end of the frame (eg frame 1 and frame 2). With vray set to 3 motion blur samples, it needs to sample the particle in 3 places - frame 1, frame 1.5 and frame 2 so you need to get particle flow to sample the particles enough times between frames so vray has enough information.

The only problem is that particle flow can get very memory heavy in these cases so you may end up with scenes that take a while to render. I'm working on a script to bake particle flow at the moment which should help this but I don't know if I'll have it done in the next few weeks. Particle flow tools: box 3 has an operator to save particle flow to disk which makes life a lot easier.

    Hope this helps!

Works fine for me; did you enable motion blur from the V-Ray Camera rollout in the first place?

      Best regards,

Yeah there's a few bits - I always go for the complicated things first and after getting really frustrated realize it was the really dumb thing instead. Like on Friday night I went around to a load of cash machines and my card was having problems with them so I kept trying different machines - then I realised I was using my credit card, not my atm card =- too arrogant for my own good sometimes
