Hello, is it possible to use a irradiance map as it's being calculated? Let say I'm doing a camera fly through calculating every 10th frame for a 3000 frame animation. The machine calculating the irradiance map is at frame 1500 (half way complete). Can I start running the animation on the rest of my farm utilizing the half way complete irradiance map?

    Thanks,

    -Shane

    yes!
u can divide it in several bits, and then merge all the irradience maps into one!

that could work. but why not set your entire farm to calculate the irradiance map?

Da_elf.....i thought that only one system could calculate the irr map. Could you please clarify.

Is it also possible and correct to DR the irr calculation?

        Thanks

You can use my Imap Control script to render every nth frame imaps in backburner that can be merged together with imapviewer.

why is no one just simply using DR to calculate their irradiance maps? makes no sence to me

Because those of us with large render farms, have been burned in the past with DR's instability. I flat out won't waste my time calculating my irradiance maps on anything but one machine. If someone can't get a solid irradiance map, in a reasonable amount of time from one machine, they need to learn to adjust settings.

I always calculate my IR on the render farm. Only got 12 nodes but haven't had a problem. Has there really been a big problem with 1.5x and IR DR over a RF?

I don't know about 'big', or how widespread, but it is still a persistent problem. I'd use DR daily if it worked, but I've not seen a solution that works here. (Check this thread, and others: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...dbe6de02754d2c)

I haven't personally had much time to really evaluate the new DR, it could be fine for all I know, just in past experience, the more nodes you added to the render, the greater chance of one of them going down, essentially negating the entire render.

I'd be content with even that at this point.
I'm unable to connect even one.
