  • Vray & plants

Can you give some tips, which plants and trees are O.K., to be used with V-ray?. I have been doing some tests with greenworks but I have experienced some problems in the past. I would appreciate any help from you guys.

I use Onyx, but often it can take hours in their tree modeler to get your tree looking right, so often I use pre-mades from the Evermotion catalog. If an architect wants a very specific plant, sometimes I turn to TurboSquid.

If quality is not so important, I find the Max AEC foliage, like the Basic Oak to work great.

          1) onyx tree but u should need to map them (finding appropriate map for trunks leaves and so on)

          2) xfrog models great quality and texured, but heavy to render for the fact that leave need opacity alpha maps (with vray heavy to render u should reduce the blur value in bitmap option and choose no filter for the maps used by the leaves)

          3) Arboretum (u can do a search in chaos group forum to see something too)

          4) archmodels vol......... (i don't remember the volume)

bye and good luck and if the scene neeed to much plants trasform one or twi or tree models into vraymeshes and instanciate them to make ram not close 3dsmax for not enough amount
          hope it will help

That would be Evermotions volume 31. Very nice.

Forest works fine with Vray..it's free...but the paid for version is well worth the money.
Forest is great for mass plantings. I use it in every exterior scene i do, with out exception...and with Onyx trees when i need close up stuff.

Can someone provide a link to Forest's website (or the developer's website if it's different.)

I'm not very experienced with mapping my own materials on, at least not with anything organic. Will any/all of these at least provide a sufficient quality material for long distance shots?

                          Thanks.
