  • intel xeon quad core chips for node

I'm looking at making a render node with the new xeon quad core chips, I'm just not sure if I should go with a 1.60GHZ chip or the more expensive 2.33GHZ and will it make much of a difference for rendering time in VRAY and MAX?

I'm looking to use the below server chips and as you can see there's a huge difference in price and I'm not that it will make much of a difference in render times. Any experts out there that can help

    · Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor E5345 2.33GHz 1333MHz 8MB 80W - $851

    · Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor E5320 1.86GHz 1066MHz 8MB 80W - $690

    · Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor E5310 1.60GHz 1066MHz 8MB 80W - $455

You could get nearly 8 cores of the 1.6 for that price.

If going dual is an option (or wasnt already planned) i'd go for that.

Just remeber the E53xx only runs on in dual config, if you only want one cpu your option is the QX6700.

Is that so? The 51xx series do run in single config afaik

Res3d: i think gangster didn't understand you were going for the 'double'...
