  • Anyone bored?

    Hi,

Just spent a couple of days trying to get some nice images out for a simple sketch design using plain white material, & glass, vray sun, phyical camera and that's it (in Max 9 with Vray 1.5). In the end I got some stuff to send out but I know it can be much, much better seeing what others are producing.......

Along the way I got completely confused by the whole Linear Workflow issue, especially when it came to the bright sunlight issue and dark materials..... and working with an LCD screen..... I have read lots and lots, watched lele's great videos etc which is a real help, so thanks to the forum for all the great info posted. I know it will seem pretty obvious when the penny drops...... I just need to find the penny now

... So if anyone is bored and fancies having a go with this simple scene to get it looking fabby dab I can email you the MAX file (or host it if I knew a free one)...... the aim is just to use vray sun/daylight and very simple materials..... It would be great so how different interpretations and workflows can look.....

This is as good as I got... left = non sRGB right = sRGB.... is it possible to save the sRGB corrected image in 8 bit out of the Vray Frame Buffer - at the mo I save as HDR and convert in PS.

    Cheers.

I'd be interested in taking a crack at this! I think you could probably use rapidshare to host the file!! The one on the right looks pretty cool!!!

Set the Vray Color Correct gamma to 2.2 and turn off the sRGB button in the frame buffer.... that should just about do it.

yeah, i've been wanting to start a thread like this for some time, but never found a simple scene i thought interesting enough, yours on the other hand is.

would be great to see various interpretations and workflows on this scene - let's see the max file!

Morning folks..... nice and bright here in the UK.... need to put on my 2.2 gamma shades

dellis, thanks for the Rapidshare info.... here is the link to the file: http://rapidshare.com/files/8368922/TEST_Model.zip.html

Dynedain.... great, it even makes sense to me.... it must be starting to sink in

Kimgar..... great... lets see what happens

Lele.... nice to see you, your vids were a real help to me. What I ended up doing is leaving MAX with no gamma correction, Vray in linear colour mapping 1,1,1 and then using the sRGB button in the Vray FB to see what was happening - saving to HDRI and burning the gamma in photoshop. Then for external scenes I used your Vray colour map workflow to make the materials darker to balance the scene..... for internal shots I just returned the rgb muliplier to 1 so that the light bounced about more..... Not sure if this the confused workings of someone new to LWF or a simple way of implementing LWF with Vray sun.....?

Looking forward to seeing what comes up.... cheers folks.

Eheh I'm a simple man: for me, what looks good is ultimately good.
              Simple AND shallow, lol

Will have a go at it in a wee bit!
              Thanks for sharing the scene!

                    Nice scene,

I made this one with old school settings, no LWF for me.

p.s. i also used a standard max camera
A full render queu is a thing of beauty !

....yikes.... I've been rumbled .... operating in a parallel universe where time is stretched from minutes to hours

Sorry folks.... how do I de-Maxwell the file.... I don't think I had any mxm's etc in there? I will try and post a 'clean' file when I get back to my work station....

Erik..... lots of lovely light in your scene - like it

                          Cheers.

I thought I'd throw in some colours to "shake" the image a bit.
Rendered with the .255 method, 2.2 gamma and sRGB.
