  • GI with animated objects - Modes ?

Hello - I have a bit of down time and am finally getting around to doing the Rendering an animation with moving objects tutorial. My problem is comping it together in AE 7 I cannot find the equivalent modes to the ones used in the tutorial. Using the custom plug in the tutorial shows you how do Subtract, Divide, Multiple and Add. Multiple and Add exist in AE, Subtract seems to be the same as Classic Difference , but does anybody know how to recreate the Divide effect within AE. I haven't installed combustion on this machine yet and AE is my compositor of choice so I would prefer not to if I can help it.

Thanks as always for your help.

you might try the compound arithmatic filter under channel in the effects menu. I think it has all those functions in it.

        No not it

No that's not it, I have also tried Combustion - me thinks the Chaos guys are doing a bit of custom layering mode to make the tutorial work. I wonder if Shake has a divide layer mode - if AE and Combustion don't have it ?

Yes - but max as a comp tool ?

Yes it is done within max but it is too strange for me to be doing comping in Max. It just wasn't designed for it and doesn't seem professional. I try to get as far away from max as possible after I am finished the actual render - it gives me more flexibility as far as tweaks and changes go. Although the tutorial mentions comping together in Digital fusion - I cannot find a the division operator - then again I opened it for the first time on somebody else's rig and did a search for division, so I wouldn't exactly call myself an expert

Yes to do that kind of addition/mulitplication of many layers Ive had to put each 2 layers into their own compositions. Then you can do calcs between compositions.

Hopefully Im not barking up the wrong tree.
