  • Max 9 - losing Vray materials after file link reload

Can someone comment on this problem? In Max 9 I lose my Vray materials that have been assigned to an object after I reload a linked scene. I lose most of my materials not just the ones where the geometry has changed either??

BTW - It doesn't happen when using scanline with regular Max materials.

    Please advise.

Yup I can comment on it, because it had me climbing up the walls trying to resolve it.

My software combination was Max 9 and Autocad 2007. This might sound mad, but the only way I was able to resolve it, was to take my Autocad 2007 model, save it in 2006 format then open it in Autocad 2006, reload it in max, then I could open it up in 2007 again and resave as 2007 format, continuing to model in Cad 2007 and reloading in max 9 now caused no further problems.

Something happened with the 2007 format and also Max 9. It's a real pain, but I was able to get around it.

      biglolly - I don't think that it is a AutoCAD 2007 issue as I am using 2004??

I have 2 machines one has Max 8 and the other has Max 9 32 and 64 bit. I am intentionally using the one computer as a ginea pig just for these type of problems. I just wanted to confirm that it was an issue for everyone.

      Solution??

Autodesk I doubt will fix it as it only seems to be a problem with plugin materials.

I would like to have someone from Vray comment to see what can be done. It is annoying not to be able to save on my Max 9. And also trying not to forget to "not" save.

      Anyone else have this problem?

      Any comment from Chaos group??

      Thanks in advance.

      Regards Peter.

And again same problem here too guys. Also having problem with proxies screwing up the mesh its proxies from, it makes sections completely disappear to be never found again. It seems RC3 and/or Max9 has some nasty little bugs.

pshupe68, did you check "use scene material definitions" & "use scene material assignment on reload" (advanced tab) up on reload?

          Biglolly, that's right.

We also had this problem. Max 9 64 bit and Autocad 2007. File Linking wasnt possible anymore. The only 'correct' solution at this moment is indeed to save your model in 2006 (2004-format).

We notified our dealer about it last month, they contacted Autodesk. The result was this:

          Autodesk*****************
If your client has max 9 64 bit, please note :
Autodesk’s Object Enablers are not supported in Max9 64-bit.
They can however try installing the 32 bit version of max on a 64 bit machine and see if that works.

Please let me know it that helps.

          Autodesk******************

( ofcourse it's a bl..dy shame to say to your customers u can install the 32-bit version. For that you dont buy expensive 64-bit systems)

Ps. We always clear up our drawings ( only solids and regions and no polyface meshes)
