  • Max/Vray 64 question

    Hello-

I'm using MAx 9 64bit with the 64bit version of Vray. I'm doing a residential interior and the client wants the Panoramic view. But Max 9 64 bit won't export the panoramic file to a .mov file. I heard that there isnt a quicktime for 64bit yet? Is that right? If thats the case, can I load another copy of Max 9 but load it as 32 bit and open and the 64 bit files to render the Panoramic???

    Thanks.

    Brian.

Maybe an elaborate workaround, but you can render with a box camera on a 64 bit os, do postproduction and then convert them with GoCubic to quicktime on a 32 bit os.
This is the way I make panorama's, gives me a lot of post production freedom.

I have read that there is no Quicktime on 64bit, so I can semi-confirm that (no direct experience with 64bit here)

However, I think gocubic suggested above is definitely a good solution, it's my preferred way to make panoramas due to the flexibility you have in post.

There is not a native QTime 64bit, but I have been using QT on XP64bit since XP64 was in beta.

After I render using the Panoramic exporter I can not save to a quicktime movie. It doesnt do anything after I export. What I have been doing is once its finished rendering I export to a spherical image. Then I open that image in Pano2QTVR program and save it to a movie file there. I have to do that on a 32bit machine as it doesnt work on the 64 either.

your right, if you are using Max 64bit, there will not be any QT codecs or max will not allow you to save as a QT movie.. a bit anoying as I used to send 'make previews' to clients using the HD h 2.64 codec that comes with QT.

I spoke to Autodesk about this and they said a work around is to install a 32 bit version of max 9 on the same machine, that way you can access the QT functionality.

              cheers.

Do u get a washed out image from H.264 codec when playing through quicktime 7?

Here's an idea... instead of exporting directly to QT... save as a Targa.

Then in Max9 32bit, open up the targa with the RAM Player and save it out to the QT panoramic.

Granted, filesizes saved from max to QT are usually huge compared to the same settings in QT Pro.

yes, dont use it for final animations, alway save out as Targas and liase with our video editing/post people for final codec conversion.

it has a great compression and keeps image sharpnes, must look into why it washes out though..looks like a gamma issue...

It looks like the graphic card is getting in the middle. If u go to the preferences/quicktime, advanced, and disable DirectX acceleration, u'll have a chance of getting the display back to normal, without washing out the image. It worked for me, but it's worthless since clients won´t go through all this hassle. I guess apple should do something about it.

There should be options in graphics card settings panel where you can choose gamma and other options for video playback.

                          Best regards,

if your running gamma 2.2 in max when doing previews you can set the gamma to over ride, set it back to 1 and not be washed out.
                            Cheers
