  • vrimg2exr taking a looooong time

    Hi,

We are trying to convert a vrimg file to an exr file, this is the first time for us and it is taking a very long time. How long is it supposed to take to convert a 6500x6500 pixel image of 1,6 Gb?

    Thanks,

    Erik

Since the file would be too big to fit in memory, vrimg2exr must convert it in several passes, each time reading only a portion of the file.

To speed the process up, use the -bufsize option and specify a larger buffer size for the conversion.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Okay,

Trying that right now, i set the buffer to 800. So how long can/should it take to convert an image of this size on a C2DE6600, considering that it is only a singlethreaded process.

edit: i wont expect you to say an exact amount of time but an estimation would be nice. I mean does it take 10 minutes or 10 hours.

The machine speed is quite irrelevant, since it is the disk IO that mostly affects the speed of the conversion. If you are converting a file over a network, it may take a lot longer. I have made tests with images up to 8000x8000 and the conversion never took more than some minutes.

          A matter of minutes .

This is what we are doing:

It has been like this for an hour and still nothing.

          Are we doing something wrong?

Then there is probably something wrong... are you using the vrimg2exr from the V-Ray installation?

            Best regards,

Yes, i wasn't at first but after some forum browsing i found out that it could be found in the vray install dir, so i am using the latest version.

edit: We did a test with a lowres image and it worked fine, it is just the high res image that is giving us trouble. I am starting to think the vrimg file is corrupt
