  • IR Map Precalc with spherical camera

Can I precalc an animation using the spherical camera and 360 FOV in the VRay cameras settings, and then switch back to my normal camera and render from the spherical precalc file?

My thinking is that this would blanket the scene with samples, reducing blank spots and also require fewer steps in the precalc.

I seem to remember seeing this somewhere in a tutorial...

thanks and cheers to all the other fools who are working this weekend like me!

It works so far. Does anyone know of any problems with this method?

There are some lighting issues and I'm missing a bit of glass and some other bits there but you can still see that it works.

Clones of the FB during a render. I precalced the IR map with a spherical cam then switched to standard and rendered.

It will certainly work. But depending on how your camera moves you may need to add some more samples to the IR map, so as long as you render with incremental add it should be ok.

        It should work fine, yes.
