  • film gate question

I'm a bit confused with the film gate attribute on the physical camera.

in the manual it says the film gate takes into account the system unit size when figuring out the film gate size.

so if I'm using inches as my unit size and I'm trying to match a lens with a 1/3rd inch ccd what would the film gate size be? I can't seem to get the value right.

    thanks,

So I take it everyone else is as confused as I am as to how this attribute works?

Film gate on the physcam is just the same as the max's render panel (f10) Aperture Width.

Both are still expressed in mm (as the texts by the spinners say), so i reckon the unit TYPE (not size) conversion is done internally.

Do as you would for the Max one to match the 1/3 ccd.

As a followup, do you know of any websites that give information concerning what the actual size of chip sensors are. I've read that the sizes usually given like 1/3" or 1/2" don't really correspond with the actual dimensions of the chip which I would imagine is what is used to determine the film gate size.

        thanks,

Any other info on matching filmgates? Forgive the stupidity but I'm trying to match a CineAlta 24P HDCAM camera's 2/3" ccds. How did you go about it, Vance?
