  • Do vray2sided materials take ages to render...

    ...or is it just me?

I have all the lights turned on except the ones inside my light fittings that have the vray2sided material and my render time is 4:18. Thats with about 20 vraylights and 12 Max lights.

If I turn on my 20 ish vraylights that are inside these vray2sided material fixtures, the time jumps to 13:03

Is this normal? Are vray2sided materials slow to render?
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

It depends on the scene I suppose; the 2-sided material is naturally slower than a regular material since it must calculate the lighting on the two sides of the material instead of just one of them.

It also depends on your geometry... which I suppose is your case.

Just keep in mind that using a Vray2Sided mat, will prefer to have a NON-shelled surfaces (single-faced) in order to work fast.

Otherwise V-Ray may need a lot of time to calculate the light going through a very thin SHELLed surface as it will consider both faces independently.

I will perhaps post sample images when I get a chance. Blimey, we're busy at the moment....
