rendering in log

I know this is a stupid question but my compositors want my renders log-like. (how are you going to do that when computers pump out linear images？？) So any of you done the same thing? I just need some quotable industry advice so I can make them look more stupid...

My approach would be to simply say yeah and convert linear to log via After Effects...

Indeed - why don't they put a lin2log at the start of their comp? Anyone that works in log space always does a log2lin at the start, comps and then puts a lin2log for output - it seems like a totally unnecessary step if thy're following a standard workflow.
