  • Dongles and Insurance ?

Since companies have different policies in case of theft and loss of dongles I just would like to know:

    - In case of Theft do I need to insure the dongle for the whole software value or just the dongle value ?
    - The same about Loss ?

Since I probably need the dongle for Backburner rendering too I have to leave the dongle in the office over night. Now there are insurance companies that require dongles the be in a safe when the office is closed. So be warned...

Funny you say this.....My dongle for a program called APDesign was stolen years ago from my truck. Someone broke my windows and took a BANK ZIPPER file thingy.....It was filled with papers and notes....But no information about me...It held a couple of receipts but that was it AND my dongle...LOL....I guess he thought it was filled with money. So when I turned in the form to the insurance company...they freaked.....the program was $3200 back then....I had to get a letter from the company stating that they would not give me the dongle unless I bought another one.....and I could not use the software without it...The insurance company did not understand what it was and since I had the software still..They figured I was out nothing....But when I faxed them the letter or I mean the COMPANY faxed them the letter...They paid in pull minus the deductible of course....But of course as things go...That was when I was drawing house plans on my own back in the day and I had since moved on from that type of work months later after it happened...And I never bought the program again....So Yeehaw...it worked out...But I would defitnely insure it before hand....So they KNOW what it is.

If you need a new dongle for V-Ray for whatever reason (stolen or lost), you will only need to pay for a new dongle, not for an entirely new license. I'm not sure how that would work with insurance companies though...

The answer to that is "sometime soon", but I myself can't tell you when. It might be worth to call the office and have someone answer

I bought my copy of Vray from Ideate in SanFrancisco, and they just shipped out my dongle last week. It cost me roughly $40 US for the dongle, plus shipping and handling to get it sent up here to Canada.
