  • Hair the final frontier

I am still working on these video game style characters and am havin trouble getting hairfx to render correctly with contact shadows. I have done a search for similar posts but cannot seem to work get the workflow down - in attidition max doesn't seem to like working with Hairfx and the sunlight system in 1.5 which I have been using to render the rest of the figures.

The basic problem is getting hair to render and cast shadows on an object that is illuminated using GI created by the sunlight system - is it even possible ?

Thanks as always for your help.

You can either convert the hair to geometry, or use a regular 3dsmax direct light with shadow maps for the shadows. This is because the V-Ray sun always uses raytraced area shadows, which hairfx cannot render.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

Yup - we used geometry hair on the caveman stuff so it got lit with everything else in the scene. If you do a scanline pass for the hair then make sure your motion blur bias is set at 0 to match scanline motion blur.
