is it possible to make LOD work with vray?

I was trying to make Level Of Detail utility work with vray but it won't, only scanline. Is it possible to make it work in future or there are somekind dificulties and it can't be done?

I've seen some cool plugins in the past for LOD stuff, but always wondered - Is it fundamentally different, or is it just a glorified Falloff by Distance?
