  • amd vs intel

´m planning to get a new workstation.
all my machines are equipped with amds so far.
can intel + amd peacefully coexist ( especially in DR) ?

i remember something about different floatingpoint calculations......

    any experiences ?

We have never managed to get DRs going successfully with a mix of AMD X2s and Intels. It renders, but some buckets differ from others.
If you send the job to just AMDs or just Intels, it'll be fine.

However, rendering sequential animation frames from a pre-saved solution seems to be fine using a mix.
    Kind Regards,

We have both AMD and Intel in our farm and workstations and haven't had any problems attributable to the different processors.

Haven't had any problems here either. Right now I am using a dual opteron system with a core 2 duo system for DR, and all buckets match perfectly.

I think what may cause differences though is if one computer has 32 bit Max and another is running 64 bit Max.

is there something like a hardware requirement-list from chaos group?

I think we are supposed to be big boys and manage our own hardware

Same exact thing here...dual-dual core Opterons and Core 2 duo's living in complete harmony.
