If you guys have never heard of this....look it up.....The university down here invited us to deom their facility. Fakespace...is a ...well...Holodeck...
I walked into this room.....with 6 projectors...two for each screen. It had a left, right and floor screen.... The demo was a barge and boatyard complex....The "driver" puts on these stero glasses and has a little joystick of sorts and then WALKS through the model.....I mean it was the coolest thing I have ever seen...I was half expecting it to be cheesy, but the only thing I could think of was the movie Discloser with Demi Moore and Michael Douglas.
It was 10 times better. The people that came with me had glasses also....but they could just see what I was seeing...not interacting....Now....the glove.....which they did not have, but he was telling me with the glove addon....very expensive by the way" you could INTERACT with doors, buttons, switches....of course this would have to be hard coded in first......but damn it was cool....The whole system had sensors that could tell WHERE I WAS....when I turned my head...the screen moved....when I ducked and looked under the counter....etc..etc..
When I first started...I walked to the edge of the pier and started to walk over a small bridge to the boat and I missed the platform and almost fell....I mean I ALMOST FELL.... LOL...YOu could move in any x, y z direction....So we are partnering with the college so we can bring clients in and show them our designs...buildings...site plans...topo...you name it....
I brought one of my models down and loaded it up into the software but they did not have the vray plugin....so the whole scene was black.....so this week I am taking a model and stripping all the stuff out to test a couple of things...But the two guys there said, they are going to buy "a plugin called Vray".... " Have you heard of it" he asked.....LOL. So Vlado...Expect a call from Dr. Ali...
Way freakin cool
