  • vray and combustion

I'm brand new to combustion so please bear with me.
When i create an rpf file and a combustion workspace from a max file useing the scanline renderer i get sensible results. i can see all elements when i open up the combution workspace that i created from the scanline rendering and i can work on them with predictable results.

Using vray and doing the same, i get all the elements but they are not integrated. they just sit on top of each other as opaque things, hiding the elements beneath them. I do not get a finished picture like i get using scanline.
So... i have to conclude i am doing something wrong getting the vray results into combustion (i hope...please tell me vray works with combustion). Is there a tutorial or explanation for getting vray render elements correctly into combustion?
    thanks,

Vray doesn't play well with the RPF file format. You need to render out seperate render elements and use the G-buffer builder in Combustion to reassemble.

Well that answers a few things. That is unfortunate because the rpf file work SO nicely in combustion. Now i will have to dig deeper to try and understand how to do what you suggest. At this point i have no idea what "use the G-buffer builder" means. ...all part of the learning curve i guess.
      Thanks for the info.

after looking up the gbuffer builder in combustion and reading thru the cpnichols thread on vray comping ( http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ic.php?t=13818 )
and rendering out what i get from using Mental ray versus Vray when going to rpf output, i'm considering the option of abandoning vray for mental ray. Going Gbuffer builder with vray output appears to be a poor mans version of what i get with MR output when using rpf output. This is just a first impression. Maybe someone here can show me differently. This is a huge disappointment for me after just buying Combustion so i can easily tweak my vray stuff. I'm hoping i'm wrong.
