  • max9 saving problems... locally and on network

    hi

since max9 we have problems at not only one workstation with saving files on the network...sometimes max hangs at saving, or the file disappears...

now saving locally, a 180mb file for example saves normally about 10 sec...sometimes it saves about 4 minutes, and sometimes i killed the task after 15 minutes of saving process...the task works and works, but doesn´t stop saving...if you kill the task max is away and the file is corrupt...
the next time saving it is possible that it saves again in 10 seconds...
xp sp2,no parallel processes running, no virusscanner...

    this didn´t change with max9sp2...

on AREA i found a topic from february with the same problems...

does anyone here in hopefully knows help?

    thanks a lot

had you used sp1 at all in 9? After installing it I couldn't save max files over 300megs without them becoming corrupted. I had to uninstall sp1 and have not bothered with sp2 at all.

I think I saw this problem a loooooong time ago, on Max 3...

If I remember correctly, what was happening was that the save was taking so long, that Max began an autobackup during the middle of the save, corrupting the file and making the save never end.

I have had that problem before. For me it just was a space problem, there wasnt enough space on the drive to save.

I always save and then exit, often in a big file if you hit exit and then tell it to save it will crash and corrupt the file.

            thanks boys for the tips...

250gb locally free, no exit saving...i think we had no max9sp1 installed...not really sure(will have a look on monday)...

dynedain...cool remember...i have the autoback at 30 minutes...do you think it only happened in max3 when the saving and the autobackup happened at the same time? this woul´d be very implausible that this coul´d happen more times a day (by a saving time of 10 seconds...)

i coul´d try to uncheck autobackup..?!

            thanks again for the tips...

always, always use incremental save. There is nothing worse than having a corrupted file, and you can always load older scenes.
i don't know why this isn't ticked by default, the advantages so greatly out-weigh the only disadvantage which is disk space.

i have the same problem as well. what is scary is that the original file completely disappears which i do not remember happening with 7 or 8. so usually now when i go to save, i just do a save as and give it a version # so it isnt overwriting the file i opened. then ill go back and clean up my older files later on. i have autobak set to every 10 mins or so.

                  hi jhiler

so we are three in the world that have the same problem with max9...
since the first beginning of max i never had a problem like this...

...for me max saves locally like this...it writes nearly the whole file on local drive to about 50kb missing...for this rest it needs sometimes to about 10 minutes....then it finishes saving...and the file is good...

so i think the same happens on network drives...but after some time the network cuts the saving process and flags the file as unsaved...and kills it...

i´m not very deep in networking, but i think this is the direction for the error...for sure someone can explain it better...

i hope for a solution...so don´t forget to post it in the autodesk forum...

I've been having the same problem with max 7! I thought going to 9 would resolve the issue! Though, I never had the problem until I put (2) new intel duals on the network. Then the problem appeared! It is strange that it completely erases the file from the server?!?

                        Hi,
we had that problem on one of our workstations. In the end the cause was a damaged network cable.

                        Best regards,

                        Dieter

Tx for the info Dieter, but we verify, and the bad frames come from diferent workstations... maybe a switch or hard drive problem.. or MAX !?

                            hi

...we have already changed the cables to go sure that this is not the thing...thanks dieter

we have this saving issue ONLY with max-files...this must be a max problem and this problem does also exist if i save without cable...locally...

We have seen this too on Max 7, A save selected fixed the issue.
                              Cheers
