  • Looking for someone to take over The V-Ray Automator

    Hi guys,

A number of you will probably know my MaxScript called The V-Ray Automator. It's a relatively simple script that enables you to change values for a number of objects/materials at once. It also offers a few extras, such as common IOR values etc..

As I am not a real scripter and don't have the time for it anymore, I'd appreciate it if someone who is familiar with MaxScript would be willing to take over the project and update it for V-Ray 1.5.

The only thing I ask for is to maintain my credit with a clickable link as the initial script author, that's all.

I suggest to turn this topic into an update wishlist from those who are using the V-Ray Automator.

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,

    Metin

        Hi Metin,

        I also love this script.

Have you had any offers for someone to take over? I only wish I had the skills myself...

I'd really like to see an update with support for the vrayblendmtl! As well as maybe adding all of the options that a vray material possesses...

        Cheers,
        Olly

          Thank you Olly!

Sadly I have had no concrete offer from anyone to continue the script. It's really not a complicated piece of scripting. If you look at the script you'll find that out. Most important thing to know is how the MaxScript equivalents of V-Ray functions are called.

I still have no time to dive into the script again, but my offer still stands if anyone dares to give it a try.

          Cheers,

          Metin

i'm afraid again i can't offer to take it on, but i can add to the list of people who say this is an amazing script - i use it almost daily and it's by far and away the best script for making sure scenes remain clean and under control.

So many times i've merged in some older geometry from another file, then all of a sudden by GI prepasses go from 2 to 5 - all i do is use the automator to remove any material interpolation, and bosch! back down to 2 passes again.

I really hope someone can update this for 1.5, as i love this script - thanks for doing it in the first place Metin!

Thanks very much! I keep being amazed by how valuable the script turned out to be, according to the people who mailed me about it. When I wrote it I just thought to ease some tedious repetitive tasks, but since the release I've received numerous grateful responses. Much appreciated! It's a pleasure to contribute to the sympathetic V-Ray community.

                Hi Metin,

As I mentioned in the PM I've written a new version of the automator, for VRay 1.5:

                Hope people find it useful...

                  Hi, Metin_7
i've recently experienced issue with script migration between rcxs versions and 1.5. SP1 brings some new changes, too.
i think your tool is a must for vray users. it really need to exist for newer builds.
I can try to update it for work with last version of vray (1.5 and sp1).
can you send me your last version, and updates wishes at jprevost@subburb.com ?

                  Best regards,
                  Jérôme Prévost.
