Nope. Each machine uses the LC that was independently generated on that machine. That's why it can take so long for render nodes to show up in the next step (IRR or final image), especially if they are slower machines. They're still doing their own LC calcs.

My wishlist item that I linked to was to deploy the LC solution to the rendernodes when it is completed, which IRRmap already does.
That's exactly what I was trying to sugest :d

No, each machine generates and uses its own LC map.

So, Each machine renders it's own LC?

No, the LC is rendered on each machine.

Okay, but why is it rendered on each machine? It doesn't need to be. If I pre-render the lighting pass, save the IR and LC (I use both because I often use LC for glossies), and then load them for the render pass, the other machines don't have to calculate their own LC.

In fact, if all machines are calculating the LC, and the slow ones are taking too long, it would always be faster to calculate the LC on a single fast workstation and then load it for a DR render pass.

I have also been wondering about this, my main workstation is a lot quicker than the other render nodes and finishes about 2 minutes before the other machine when calculating the light cache. Baring in mind that if I was doing low res frames for an animation which only takes about 5 mins to render per frame, that means that about half of the time the frame is only being rendered on the single computer.

I tried the precalculated light cache and still the other render nodes seems to go about their own thing and don't just jump in and use the available cache.

As others have mentioned, the distributed ir map cache does seem to be used by the dr machines and they don't start that again.

                  Confused!

                    just something like this

it could be just a radio-button

could be as simple as Dynedain wrote in the whishlist...the 1st node to complete the LC sends it over the network to the others as these skip their own LC.
no need for a button (the less buttons the better imo)

                          Yes, Dynedain's solution is perfect.

                          kind regards

Hmmm, maybe Vlado will investigate it, if he has time for it?

                            Daforce?

Man, I don't think Vlado likes pressure ...

                                But....
