2 m x 3m banner render size ?

Hi Guys,

just need some advice please, im doing some renders for a client who needs some renders done to fit on a 2 m x 3m banner, can anyone tell me please what size to render from max? the exact pixels for that size would be 19,685 by 23,622...... (!"£$%^&%££) obviously im not going to be able to render at that res, so does anyone have any advice please?..

Banners don't need to be higher than 100 dpi, because no-one will be able to tell the difference.

Presentation boards, 150dpi.

Hand-held prints, 300dpi

most of the times, banner will be seen from more than 3-4 meters distance, so, my case, i just render it 6000 width and blow it up. no complaint from client so far.

iv rendered stuff out at 4k wide, and the client (bless here little cotton socks) blew it up to fit on the side of a 2 story building...it looked fine, I would think that it must have been 50-100 dpi, but at 10 feet away it looked alright.

3m = 118.11 inches
2m = 78.74 inches

100 dpi (dots per inch) * 118.11 = 11811 px
100 dpi (dots per inch) * 78.74 = 7874 px


So for 3m X 2m, you'd render at most 11,811 px by 7,874px

You could probably get away with even lower... 72dpi would probably work fine.

We print signs and banners in-house and 72dpi would be just fine for a banner that size. Just make sure the sign company prints it with whatever high-quality option they have in their print settings.

For a future FYI: In Max, Rendering menu -> Print Size Wizard. Set your width, height and dpi.

72 dpi is probably fine, you could probably go even lower depending on how far away it's viewed from. If you are adding text to it though I'd lay the whole thing up in illustrator or inDesign so the text can stay as vector linework and come out razor sharp.

There are some decent plugins around that resize images in PS, and do a fairly good job as long as you dont go too nuts... like only twice as big.

image fractal pro I think is one of them. Worth a look
Just means you can render half size and blow it up nicely.

I think daforce means Genuine Fractals (Pro?). Another option is BlowUp (http://www.alienskin.com/blowup/index.html) I think both have demo's available.
