If the two machines are still on the same network and being used you can install vray on the new machine that you want to run it on and when you open the render dialog and set the name of the machine with the license, put in the name of your old machine. Alternatively if the old machine is being decommissioned, you'll need to install vray on the new machine in software license mode, open the license server and send the request code to the chaos guys for a new license.

nope...doesn't work. The two machines can see each other but only one is able to use the license...doesn't matter if the machine that has the license has max/viz open or not, there is no communication regarding the license...there is no borrowing the license from one machine to the other. i sat with our IT guy and checked out the communications between machines and all is fine on that end.

Any other suggestions? I want to be able to use whichever machine i want, alternately, without removing any license but using vray on only one at a time. I'm thinking that this would be accomplished with a network license but have no idea if something like that even exists...and i do not have a dongle.
      thanks.

        Something here might help.
        www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

Is the license server aka vrlserver running on the old machine? You can set up which port it uses to broadcast on and make sure it doesn't have anything annoying like windows firewall or another firewall soft blocking it - likewise the new machine you want to use the license on probably needs to have it's firewalls set up so it isn't being restricted form seeing the new machine. It's all covered in that thread.

got it...i was unaware the license server had to be started manually on the original machine....works fine now. Thanks for the link to the other old thread.
