  • help with material

    Hello All!

I've got a pendant fixture that needs to look like this.

I've been trying out a few different material/lights but not quite there yet.

I've looked around/searched more than I have time to, so does anyone have suggestions for a material for the big glass disc? Thanks. I've attached a reference image (photo.) (I did many searches and looked at vraymaterials-de.)

    Thanks a lot,
    JR

looks pretty good, maybe it needs a little stronger reflection on the chrome, mirror like with fresnel and falloff map might help.

i think the disc looks a bit too transparent in the second image, maybe you could add refraction with some green fog in it?

Thanks kingmar, is this getting better?
Funny about the metal, as the mfr calls out circular brushed SS, but their photo lloks like chrome.

        Thanks again,
        JR

It looks like it would be fairly opaque so why not just map an opaque disc with a vraylight material using a gradient witht the colors you want. Set the disc to not cast shadows and to not be visible to gi.
          www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

dlparisi, actually, it might be like you described. I have it as a Blend material. One is the glass and the other is the vraylighmtrl with a gradient ramp map going from white to greenish. I will try your suggestion for not casting shadows and not to visible to GI.

            Thanks a lot!

the disc is a lot better, good idea to use lightmat with gradient
HDR's produce great reflections, maybe one in the reflection slot? then again, you might have problems with the window reflections...
