3ds max 8 general question: file lock

I know this isnt vray specific but I might get an answer within a day instead of waiting a couple................

There is two of us at our office and we notice that sometimes he will be working on a file.... I try to access the file and it WILL let me open it... which is different than most Autodesk products... Usually there is a file lock on the file until he gets out of the file... Im pretty sure (at least in autocad) that a file is created: a "dwl" file.....

Without using something like Vault or another 3rd party app.... is there some way to make sure we both dont have the file open at the same time...... this has caused hours of delays......

is there some setting in max that does this?

It has check-in and check-out.

Now you just gotta work out how to use it
