  • vraySky and indigoSky

    nice day!

i did some tests with the physical sky in both.
dont know who is right and who wrong. just notice
some differences. the lightning from vraySky
is nearly 3 times darker and to geenish.
to correct this i make the sky 3 times brighter and
set the camera white balance r=215 g=255 b=240.

i remember vlado said that the sky in rc3 was about
2 times to dark and it is correted in newer bilds.
these samples here were done in rc4 ...

    vray1

    indigo1

    vray1 sky 3 times brighter camera white balance r=215 g=255 b=240

    vray2

    indigo2

    vray2 sky 3 times brighter camera white balance r=215 g=255 b=240

does indigo add 2.2 gamma by default? Not sure that is what is going on, but maybe?

      hi rerender!

yes, indigo adds by default a gamma of 2.2 to the image.
so i did the same for the vray image and correct the color
with the new gamma settings in the vraycolor map.

how do you make the sky 3x brighter?
if you find a bug...kill it.

It has been noted before that the V-Ray sky is about 2.x times darker than it should be. This is corrected in newer builds.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

Intresting test. I was actually struggling with the Sky paramaeters and your parameters will be usefull for me. I initially tought that 2x was alrealy alot better, and did used a value between 1.5 and 2. If I knew it was more than 2 !

About the white balance, how does it affect your textures ?

it affects everything within the image including the light color
if you find a bug...kill it.

                ryan_chiong:
i load an instance of the environment-texture (vraysky)
to the materialeditor and check the 'manual sun node' option.
as sun node i choose the only vraysun and set here the
                'sun intensity multiplier' to 3,0.
(the multiplier in the modify tab for the sun is 1,0)

                vlado:
okay, but how about the geenish?

                pixlab:
i have not tested this for textures. but when the sky has a wrong
lightcolor and you correct this by setting a white balance the color
of the texture should be right.

The sun/sky model, along with the Physcam ISO modelling have all been rewritten.
Both colours and exposure work a lot better in the newer builds, fear not.

                    great test monumedia

By the way I notice that the vray render does not have noise (with dof and area shadow deactivate)

which build has these points corrected? He is using RC4 beta i assume?

Aside from the fact that internal beta features shouldn't be discussed in public, i am referring to a later build than rc4, of course.

Monumedia : I did an interior view with your parameters, and it gave very nice results !

Good workaround while waiting for the RCxx

(I just divided the color for the white balance you gave by 2. It was too pink IMHO)
