For those of you whose reseller wants to charge them any money for the dongle itself. I would highly suggest NOT paying, (postage is ok) and find another resller to get the dongle thru.

The dongles are not meant to be charged for.

Yep contacted my reseller and they want $40 US plus postage for the dongle. My reseller is Ideate Inc.

So just to confirm. There is supposed to be no charge for the dongle except postage?

            Thanks,

Vlados intention was to not charge.

People charging for the dongle AND postage, are just out to make a quick buck. And as far as im conncerned thats a scam.

They were meant to be free.

Just wanted to update my dongle situation and those who are Ideate Inc. customers.

Rahul Verma from Ideate Inc. replied to my email about the dongle and said the following:

                Hi Richard,

I met with Chaos Group at Siggraph.
They are aware of the charges and the process.
The good news is, they will be coming to San Francisco in 1-2 weeks.
They will collect all the dongles from me and send it to Ideate
customers for no charge. So you'll get it for free but you'd have to
                wait a little bit.

                Thank you.

So looks like we will get our dongles at little or no charge after all! Thanks Chaos!

You guys really know what customer service means and go above and beyond for all us users! This kind of thing really builds loyalty and confidence in the product from a service end. Of course from a technical end we all know how good Vray is!

Umm. I hope the real good news is that you'll be making any Vray purchases elsewhere from now on. So, if they can't turn a tidy profit on the dongles, they'd rather give them back to Chaos. Funny thing is that a dollar spent toward good will is almost guarenteed to be returned many times over.

I have 2 resllers for canada according to the chaosgroup list. Now WHY do i have to get my dongle for the reseller that charges $40 and not the other reseller where i can drive to in 10 minutes and just pick it up???

I am a little frustrated as you can see in the other dongle post.

Yep, I have to confess that I am disappointed with Ideate Inc. stance with regards to how they handled the dongle thing. However, at least Chaos will be sending them to us Ideate customers at no or little charge. We really should have had the dongles ages ago.

I guess those Ideate customers that paid for the dongle will be pissed. I think it is really uncool of Ideate to charge as the idea was no charge and then Ideate masquerades it as their shipping and handling when they really just want to make a profit.

I can clearly see who the good reseller is for plug-ins here in NA now from the responses in this post.

                              Sounds good.

But, we do ship and support worldwide. For our customers more than about 100 miles away it's probably all the same - everything is handled via email and phone for sales, support, etc. I guess the dongles take an extra week or so to arrive when we ship overseas. But we did them all at no charge, no matter how far away. We have a bunch of customers that didn't respond to the emails (possibly spam filtered or that company's 3D guy quit and the new 3D guy has a new email) so next we have to start making phone calls to the ones that didn't respond

Very true. We were lucky in that we bought one of our licenses from Trinity3d. Even though they are in another continent they are airmailing our dongles to us in the uk free of charge. We also received an offer from our local reseller Bluegfx to post our dongles to us for £25 ($50).

So from now on I will give any business I can give to Trinity3d whereas I will never use Bluegfx again.
