This is a great tool! We will be using this on a lot of projects in the future.
Would it be possible to allow for saving presets as well?

Yeah, I am planning to add custom presets at some point. Perhaps I'll get something done before next weekend.

I have another, but easier, wish as well:
I'd like to see a "Show calculation phase" checkbox for the GI settings.

I don't want to rain on the parade, but what is different between this, and saving a max render preset?
            Just curious.

EDIT: Doh, i've read it better, materials and shadows too. nice.

Well this doens't permanently change any settings. The settings are changed only for render time and only when you render from Render Preview button. Render preset just change all your render settings permanently. And as you pointed out, this also allows you to cap material and light subdivs so they wont exceed the given value (they can be lower, the script doesn't increase subdivs if they are lower than the global value).

                New features in 2.0
                - Preset manager, allows you to fully customize your presets, including irradiance map presets. (Double click lists to load presets)
                - Show Calc Phase ("Pre.") override to Irradiance map and Light cache show pre pass.

                    very very cool!

                    A few questions:

                    - the glossy subdivs override only reflection and refraction glossies? Or does it alter subdivs like in dof and mblur too?
                    - what is the drop down menu for in the global illumination/irr.map used for? Since there is already these presets in the preset manager?
                    - is it possible to add controls for adaptive qmc sampler (AA) instead of adaptive subdivision? The DMC noise threshold will make much more sense then cause it doesn't do much when you use adapt subdivision AA.
                    - is there a difference between pressing a button or deslecting an item? For example in a small test I notice a difference between closing the AA button, and simply deselecting the AA checkbox. Here are two images:
                    http://www.aversis.be/vrayrhino/presets_closed.jpg
                    http://www.aversis.be/vrayrhino/presets_open.jpg

The first one is with AA button pressed (aa rollout closed). The second one is with checkbox deselected. The first one is correct cause it looks the same as if I set the same settings in vray and render normally. When the AA rollout is open, the quality gets a lot better even when the 'enabled checkbox' is deselected.

Glossy affects material (reflection/refraction) subdivs only.

The irradiance map dropdown menu also controls HSph. subdivs and Interpolation samples, so its a little different from VRays presets.

AA Quality controls which AA method is used. For negative numbers and 0 adaptive subdivision with undersampling is used. For 1 fixed sampler is used and for 2 and above adaptive qmc sampler is used. Examples:

                      Quality -2 : Adaptive subdivision -2/1
Quality 1 or aa checkbox unchecked: Fixed 1
                      Quality 4: Adaptive qmc 1/4

Only visible settings are overriden. So if you close the AA settings they wont be override and your current settings are used. So if you leave only AA open and close the others, only your AA settings will be overriden for preview render.

So in your first screenshot (closed) you are rendering with your current anti-aliasing settings and on the second (open) you are rendering with Fixed 1 subdivs.

Thanks for the script seems very useful.

I think I found a bug though: When you have some instanced lights their shadows subdivision doesn't get restored properly after render.

                              Max 8 Support?

I tried running your script with Max8SP3 and got this error:

                              Compile error: Undeclared variable: getSourceFilename
In line: locaocal ini = (getFilenamePath (getSourceFilename(

Any thought as to why? Does the program not work with Max8 or Vray 1.47?

It seem getSourceFilename() was introduced in Max9, I'll make Max8 version tomorrow.
