  • gamma state for scenes

    hi
    I have problem with this.
when I enable gamma state for files, and open a file, it doesnot load the file's own gamma settings but instead it changes the settings of the file according to the last worked file's gamma.
I want gamma settings of each file loaded individually when I open that file.

am I doing something wrong or is this usual way for it?

do I have to write them down and take a note and load it manually each time?
how do u manage ur gamma state?

    thanks friends

Would have thought the handiest way to deal with it is via the vray gamma option in the colour mapping - do you find that you're using different gammas for each different scene? Maybe then it might be best to leave the max gamma preferences at the default 1.0 and then use the vray gamma with either colorcorrect or the bitmap gamma settings for your bitmaps.

      thanks
yes you are right and I use the same too.
but I use input gamma for bitmaps from max preferences so all bitmaps arrive to scene gamma-corrected.
so I still need each file loaded individually with its own gamma settings.

        Hi giraffe,

All you need to do is check "Load Enable State with MAX files" in the Preference Settings: Gamma and LUT tab.

What happens with this setting is, if you open an old MAX file, before you started using LWF, it will prompt you with a nag window that says: "Do you want Gamma/LUT correction to be DISABLED to correspond with the setting in this file?" Select Yes if you want to disable the gamma.

If the next file you open has a different gamma state than the last file, it will prompt you again, asking if you want to enable, or disable, as the case may be.

yes, but i think the specific problem is that it will only disable gamma, or enable with the settings you have entered or set up, not from the file itself.

So if a scene (for some reason) had a gamma enabled of say 1.84, and you chose to enable gamma correction, but your settings were for 2.2, it would make the scene 2.2

I.e. it doesn't record the saved gamma settings into the scene....

            Oh, yeah. I see...

I only ever use 2.2, so that didn't occur to me
