Is there a way to create a light source that is a laser?
I tried putting the vray light material on a spline and it doesn't look right.
The best I have got so far is to take a vray light plane make one side .001 in width and place it close to a surface but that doesn't get it to wrap around and object.
I was hoping to stay at a distance and throw the light across the space keeping the light rays straight.

    thanks

      maybe,

what I want to do is a laser light show. so make a lined circle or a square and then move it around but let it fall across a bumpy surface.

      Is that possible?

We played with the concept a few years ago, http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ic.php?t=12755

          very cool,

          thanks for the link.

how long were your renders on these? I was kinda hoping to animate the thing.

            The renders were pretty quick.

But do note that you need to have the caustics on a surface.. they can be just visible in the air.

I'd like to take a peak at one of those scenes. Mind re-uploading it?

                            being a bit of a dumb a$$,...

I tried it without the lens and then put the lens in and the only thing I can see that changes is the round beam of the direct light becomes oval plus from the exit area of the lens begins to create caustics where as without the lens the caustics begin from the first mirror.

so I'm confused as what the lens is supposed to be doing as you have one in the beginning and at the end.
