Im having trouble controlling the intensity of the direct light coming through a transparent two sided material.

What i'd like to have is sun shining through the curtains, casting a bit of shadow (just enough that you can tell that it passes through something, very transparent) but not being much lower in intensity than the areas that are directly lit.

But at the same time, id like to have the actual curtain a bit more opaque. If i set it to be opaque enough, hardly any light can shine through the curtain. If i make it transparent enough that light shines through it the way i want to, the curtains look like they're made out of very thin silk, you can hardly even notice them.

If i try to duplicate the geometry, and set one copy of the curtains just to cast shadow and not be seen, i get errors like the're both actually showing up (coplanar faces).

    Any suggestions?
