  • Question about irrad map and DR

    Hi.

    I'm doing a flythrough animatyion rendering using irrad map in distributed rendering.

    I seen in the vray doc that Irrad map in multiframe incremental mode doesn't work with distributed rendering.

    I saw this after pressing the render button, and it seems to work.

    Am I dreaming? or it can really work in the 1.50.00 version?

    well - it kinda works.

    I'm now calculating irr using DR, and I set multiframe incremental as the irradiance method. For the first frame all machines were used, but all subsequent frames (in this particular example every 10th) are computed only by my workstation. DR nodes are idle - messages window only shows that the nodes are starting frame ###, but then they do nothing.

    Pity, because lots of computing power is wasted - IRR would be calculated much faster, thus all animation would benefit from DR, not only final render...

    Or maybe there is other way to compute IRR with DR and nth frame?

      the LC in DR is a waste
      each node do his own LC but only the LC from master PC is used
      best way is to take the strongest PC for LC and then reload it for the IRR pass in DR

      if you have a 8core master and dual core spawner the master finish the LC and start IRR pass but your dual core spawner are still busy with the LC

      correct me if i am wrong

          well yea, but what about IRR?
          I know that LC cannot be distributed, but IRR sure can.

          So why can't IRR be calculated using all the nodes with multiframe incremental?

            its cant be distributed in that manner because each node needs the preceding irradiance map to be completed to start the next one, since it builds off the last irradiance map.

              multiframe incremantal via DR is working - he just do a GI per bucket - thes the reason only one prepass is visible during the calc.
              the irr map should not be save to disk automaticly
              the files is going VERY big as more spawner participate and as more frames are to do
              400mb for 20 frames with 10 DR nodes are normal
              it take longer to save the IRR then do the frames - so save on renderend by hand

                incremental add to current used to work. i remember doing i flyover of an island with 1.49xxx i forget which it was

                  to be horest

                  add to current works only if starting a fresh IRR calc with empty memmory from master and not loading map from file.
                  then it is as u do a normal multiframes pass

                  by pressing render the scene is save and send to spawner without any GI info from file nor from masters memmory
                  thats why !
                  avoid strange effects - just forget incremental add + DR
