  • How to copy VRay files from 3ds Max 9 to 2008?

Anyone know the files / changes needed to copy a working install of VRay 1.5 in 3ds Max 9 to a new install of 2008 no the same machine?

I really would like to move to 2008 but not at the risk of breaking 9... I thought I'd just use the 1.5 installer and tell it to use the 2008 folder but it wants me to uninstall it from max 9 first - and there's no way I'm going to do that. The only solution I can think of is to manually move the plugins folder / ini files but I'm getting errors.

Here are the files I can think of that would need to be moved:

    3ds Max 9\vray* (4 files)
    3ds Max 9\plugins\vr* (2 files)
    3ds Max 9\plugins\vrayplugins\ (16 files)
    3ds Max 9\plugcfg\vr* (4 files)

In addition, the VRay entries in plugin.ini would need to be moved / paths changed (from Max 9 path to 2008 path)

Any suggestions? I did the above and got a ton of errors on startup of 2008...

When the installation says "There is an older version that needs to be uninstalled..." click OK, but when the UNinstaller starts next, click cancel. Then proceed with the normal installation in the 3ds Max 2008 folder.

So Vlado it's possible to keep working together Max 9 64 bit & vray 1.5 RC4 (software licence) with Max 2008 & vray 1.50.00 (with dongle)?
Or the existing software licence wolud be removed installing new vray 1.5 with the dongle licence on max 2008?

It is possible, yes. The licenses are completely different and will not interfere with each other.

Max 9 and Max 2008 running VRay

          Hi

tried the above and it did indeed uninstall the previous version, as the uninstall starts straight away after pressing OK, if I press cancel it cancels the install.

VRay version is 1.5R3 licenced via a server, I am not sure how my company will licence 1.5 final via a dongle.

          What am I doing wrong?

I think it works that way when you install version 1,5 final
