Making shadows darker by adjusting material

I have a material I am using in a scene on some text, but I would like the text to have darker shadows around the sides. I dont want to change the lights in the scene as everything else is looking good. can you tell me what I need to change to get my shadows darker if it is possible. If not is there a way of doing this in the scene.

Well, you could render it out as a separate pass and change it through Photoshop if you don't mind tweaking things like that.

you could use a falloff map in the diffuse and set it to Light/Shadow. Leave the light color to what you have now. Set the shadow color darker.
