vray and vue ?

Hello friends !

Trees, bushes, and hedges, are always a challenge for rendering.
Since Vue has built the Xtrem plug inside max, I was very happy.... till, I realized, you only can render with mental.

Now the question is:
Will it be possible to use vue inside max with vray ?
I am pretty sure that the developer from vue would appreciate that - I would love it.

I don't think it will ever be possible. You'd be better off exporting from Vue into Max, or just compositing the Vue and Vray renders later.

That's not up to chaos...eon would have to re-create the mental ray shaders as vray shaders....

I am not sure, I think eon also didn't have anything to do with mental - I think they don't have to re-cerate a render system, more to develop a pipeline between ...

how ever it works, it would be great to see something like that.
Vray was also developed for maya, cinema 4d and even sketchup. So I think it shouldn't be impossible to do the same for Vue.

Compositing is a solution with some major issue, like reflections or shadows.
For closeup shots, really hard to do, almost really very complex and very often impossible.

Anyway, would be great if Vue and Vray could work together.

Well even if they dont have to re-create the rendersystem (if i recall right vue used to be implemented as mental ray shaders wich would be just that) then it would still be up to THEM to make it support VRay unless they wanna share their source (wich i doubt) :P

So i'd say you'd be better of writing to eon instead of chaos.

right now ,

x-stream images get rendered in a hmm composit way.. stuff that gets imported into max is rendered by the vue rendere itselve, but contend created in max is rendered from mentalray that gets it overal setings like environementlight from vue.

so in each rendering there are two renderers that work together.

right now rendering in vue-xstream is a pain, cause from the maxdialogs, you still cant finetune the vue quality itselve for the vue-content and also you cant render out any images with the needed Channels and layers, that you would need to compose the vue contend in a good way with vray (which we wanted to do) . this works when exporting all max stuff like buildings and so on to vue itselv, and render strictly in vue. here you get a layered psd with all channels , and after this you can compose it with your vray scene, which allways means doubled renderings.

on the other hand, the athmospheric quality and the nature is stunning.

arrrgh... why the hell..

if only vray would work together with it..

We have talked to the e-on guys, and they have a developers copy of V-Ray to try and work on this if they wish. Beyond that, there isn't much we can do (other than re-write the whole thing ourselves :-p) It might help to talk to them and let them know that you are interested in a connection between Vue and V-Ray.

I second that, I too have looked into purchasing Vue because of their fantastic looking trees and enviroment tools which would be great to have, but it was too much of a pain to try and composite.

Vue trees use copious amounts of opacity, and not just the leaves, but for the branches as well. I've imported many a vue tree and frankly they don't look any better then any other tree package, but their opacity is very painful.

At Siggraph this summer they said they were working on a vray version as well...but I guess who knows how hard...

The program is sufficiently buggy just trying to do what it's doing now!

I agree with Tom, the only useful way to use it now is porting your data into the vue app itself~

ok, so far so good, like I said, I think everybody has issues with that.

I will let eon know, that it is a big wish that we want to render with vray too.
