  • vray sunlight system

I thought that the vray sun was going to be incorporated into a vray sunlight system in 1.5. Has it not been implemented yet, or am I missing something? I know I can link it to the Max system, but I wanted to save a step. Cheers.

In version 1.50.SP01 (not sure about prior versions), when you create an max daylight system you can choose VRaySun as the sunlight emitter. I guess it's pretty much the same as the sunlight system.

Create tab > Systems button > Daylight system
Once you put one in your scene you select VRaySun as Sunlight.

if you create a daylight system you can pick up a vray sun from the sunlight rollout. you'll be asked whether you want a skylight map as environment as well.

        edit:
well, a bit late I guess. should answer your question though.

Thanks guys. I previously only tried the sunlight system before, but you can't switch the light type. As you suggested, I used the daylight system and it works.

I assume I need to disable all the skylight features so they don't interfere with vray sky? Doing it this way seems a bit awkward. But I suppose its better than linking it like before...

that's what I usually do, but it might even get automatically disabled once you select the vray sun. don't know, never had the guts to take the chance and leave it on.

The 3ds Max skylight will be ignored (there is a warning in the V-Ray log about this), so it doesn't matter if you turn it on or off.
