Is there a way to render material ID's in vray? I looked into PSD Manager, but it doesn't work under 64. Currently I put a gray material on everything except the element I want to isolate, which I make red, and I render that out. In photo shop I can mask the red. This works, but there must be a better way.

You can use either the VRayMtlID or MultiMatteElement render element depending on your needs to generate a selection mask for the proper ID or you can just use the vrayMtlSelect to isolate just the material you need on black.www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. You don't have to save out to anything special unless your batch rendering an animation which I doubt your doing since you say it's photoshop. Just switch to the correct element at the top of the VRAY FB and save it like normal.www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... I can show Object ID in the VFB, but it shows them all. Ho do I isolate them? I must be missing something.Bobby Parker

Then probably what will work best for you is the multimatte render element; just change the Object ID for the nodes that you are interested in (from their Node properties); then in the multimatte element, enter that Object ID e.g. for the Red channel. This should be all to get a mask for the desired objects.

PSD manager
I'll look closer at PSD manager. I just saw on there homepage a disclaimer that they don't support 64 bit. Material ID seems to be doing the trick for me. It produces one image with different colors for each material. It'll safe me some time preparing for PS post.Bobby Parker

From their website:
System Requirements of psd-manager 2.0
Autodesk 3ds max 6/7/8/9/2008 (32-bit and 64-bit) or VIZ 2005/2006/2007

I guess I was confused by this statement:
Note: While a tryout version of psd-manager 2.0 for 3ds max 9 (64-bit) is not available it is fully supported by the full version.Bobby Parker
