  • MAX Light volume effect...only with mapped shadows?

    Hi all,
I managed to get a decent volume effect for my street lamps, using regular spot lights but with mapped shadows.
If I switch to vray shadows the effect disappear.

Since I cannot set the shadow maps too high (512 top), I get crappy shadows, if at all, actually (that is, the shadows are so washed out, no details, that basically they disappear).

Just wondering if there is another way to get light volume effect AND vray shadows, using MAX spot lights, possibily.

    thank you

    regards

    Gio

For the moment, you have to use shadow maps. From what I could test, shadow maps are also the only shadows that work with volume fog when rendered with the scanline renderer (at least in 3ds Max 8 ).

    Best regards,
    Vlado
