  • A maxscript for those who have problems with DOF

    Hi all,

I wrote this script some years ago and updated it yesterday to work also with the vrayphysical camera:

    The DOF-TOY

This script takes your *selected camera* and use the manual clipping feature to show you the sharp area and to hide the unsharp area.
If you are using a std cam it now automatically sets all needed values for vray in the rendersettings or if you use the vrayphyscam it sets all camera parameter.

To enable DOF for a rendered image you have to manually enable dof in your vraycam or in the vray rendersettings. Easy!!!

    Some hints:
    * The script was written in a metric unitsetup ..so, let me know if it works with inches as unit
    * Dof is most visible on higher focal lenght - a 15mm lens will give you no dof effect, a 105mm will give you great results
    * Dof is most visible on short focus(/target) distances - on a focusdistance of 100m you will hardly see any unsharp area

If you have nice results please post them here!

The standard camera has a depth of field preview after you switch it on. Just remember to switch it back off before you render, unless you want it to go through 12 times.

If the sample radus in standard matches the aperture in the physical camera and the depths are the same, they'll have an almost exact match. And it'll give you a proper blurred/DOF preview of it.
