  • Different Windows Versions

    Hi,

Looking to update my workstation from Viz2008 on 32bit Win xp to Max2008 on 64bit Win xp. I'm getting conflicting information about whether or not I can use my old 32bit machine as a render node.

Also can I run AutoCAD LT and Photoshop on 64bit Windows. I realise they won't take advantage of 64bit, but will they run?

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please.

    Thanks.

    hello,

we use 64bit windows and photoshop cs2 also adt and acad 2007-08 all run fine all installed as 32bit applications.

I think 32 to 64 goes but not 64 to 32 as render node.
currently were using all 32 on 64 bit xp pro, but were looking into full 64 bit.

    hope that helps.

      Hi Simon,

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, does this mean I can use a 32bit node from a 64bit workstation.

Having a bit of a blonde day!

      Thanks

        hi ya,

we have three 64 bit capable machines in our office and seven 32 bit machines. I initially tried rendering over the network with Backburner but it won't render from a 64bit version of max on the 32 bit machines. You have to install a simultaneous 32 bit version of max on the 64 bit machine, just to send the renderings to the rest of the network. This became tedious so I've decided to use 32 bit versions across the whole network for ease of compatability.

The newest version of V-ray does apparently render however across both systems using the DR spawner.

        hope that helps

Thanks very much. I'm running SP1 so hopefully this will work.

We're doing the same thing. Unfortunatly we only have two 64 bits systems and four 32 bits systems.

Check my signature. For XP we're using SP1 (both x86 and x64) and for VRay we're using SP1, version 1.50.17

I was having some problems with my renders so I sent a mail to Vlado. He then sent me a link to the 1.50.17 version.
                    It's a full, stable build.

                        Is this still an issue?

I have two pc's running max9 and vraySP2, both 64bit versions. My home pc is 32bit, so is it useless when I'm on a deadline and want to use it as a render pc?

                        Thanks,

                        wouter

mixing 32bits and 64 shouldn't be a problem. I've done it a long time like this.

                          Geen probleem

Hehe, don't you have problems with differently rendered frames? I tried to do a scene with gi etc in it, and two frames on both systems look very different, the gi detail jumps all over the place between the two frames. So the noise pattern is rendered differently in the two versions of vray it seems.
