  • VRayBlendMtl Destroys Multi-Sub

Don't know whether this is intentional, but have a multi-sub material with VrayMtls in it and when I change one of them to a VrayBlendMtl it detroys the multi-sub.
A work around is to copy out the individual materials, change to the blend and them copy back to multi-sub works.
Am not sure of the compatibility of the VrayBlendMtl inside the multi-subs material either?

There shouldn't be the need to copy around the sub-materials; I will try to reproduce this here. Which 3ds Max version is this?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

It does the same thing for me in max 9/64.

It's not really destroying the multi-sub though, it's just replacing the slot with an instance of the blendmtl so you can no longer "go to parent". If the multi sub wasn't assigned to anything it's gone simply because it's no longer in the material editor slots. As long as the original multisub was assigned to an object you can still get it back by just using the eyedropper. Does seem like a bug though.

Vlado am using max 9/32 bit.
Yes and I hadn't applyed the multi yet so its gone.
And not a huge deal, but maybe something to think about if you were building a huge multisub material, which thankfully I wasn't.

I am able to reproduce this here and I will look into it. The problem is a bit weird - when 3ds Max replaces the material slot with the new VRayBlendMtl material, nothing in scene references the original Multi/sub one, so 3ds Max goes ahead and deletes it.
