Colin, I use it all the time...love it. I do a lot of work on my laptop when at home, then back on the network in the office. Works like a charm.

sorry max montana, i have no idea. its only something i have picked up being discussed in that tutorial. I have actually converted my earlier workflow of having the maps on each machine to using the UNC paths workflow. so i am in the same boat and wonder just how much time it will save.

hi, finally i found the time to reorganise my mappaths according to unc.
        now i face a problem:
after renaming my computername from "dell" to "workstation"(according to use older matlibs with mappaths like: \\workstation\datadisk\materilas\jpg...)
i anticipathed, that i have to make new mappaths for the materials i made on the dell pc, which are like: \\dell\datadisk\materials\jpg...
but when i assign materials with this no more existing mappaths to objects all of the materials still work...(the needed maps are not in the maxfolder...)

how is this possible, and would it make sense to change the mappaths anyway to \\workstation\datadisk\materilas\jpg? i think for dr it is necessary to do so...

        hope it`s not too confusing

          Hi Guys,

Just keep in mind that it is the speed of your network that
will have the biggest influence on any render slow downs,
and of course the size of bitmaps that have to be pulled
across said network. With a fast network and optimised
bitmaps things should work well. Although local maps will
          usually be the optimal solution.

          Regards
          Bri

hi, i found the cause for my problem "no access to datadisc on local pc..."
I suggested the cause was, that i renamed the computername, but it wasn`t. In the kaspersky forum i found the solution: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php...0&#entry616020
It seems that the problem came with a bug in the last kaspersky update.

What are your experiences with kaspersky IS 7.0? Are problems like this known to occure more often?

hi, first thanks for all your tips to setup correct mappaths. finally i have 2 more questions. in "costumice/preferences/files" i have the possibility to check/uncheck "convert file paths to unc" and "convert local file paths to relative..". can someone explain this settings to me?

another dr question: do the slaves find the maps which are just dropped in the maxfile folder?
