would you have the option to save the lighting that is being calculated in real time? For example... you tweak the lighting to an overall satisfactory level and move onto materials etc... assuming you are not making significant changes to the lighting setup...could you just tell it to start saving incrementally to save time in pre-calculating for the final render? Kinda like background progressive path...
another scenario would be to progressively build/save a full IR map of the scene/model as you turn and tumble...
I understand what you are saying about taking beta testing etc. as important... i would really love to give back to the community by helping test the software as i love it and the community has helped me out alot . I find that once my skills catch up everyone has jumped light years ahead again so if there was anyhting i could do to help it would be that.
As for the likes of software being in alpha/beta i don't expect it to work all the time and i most definitly expect it to crash (sometimes i think VIZ is in perminant beta)
I just think its a great idea and piece of software somethign i have been dreaming about using... just from the dmeos alone i can see how its going to help in our design process here at the office and would love to give help with the production and would still be definitly in line to push my office to purchase it as a standalone even have mentioned it to our IT director so he can get ready to purchase whenever that is possible.
Anyways thank you all again in the forum great help!
Vlado - building on Nichols post - is the latest beta build for this fairly stable?
Nope. It's not even a beta yet... however, we need some input on the current implementation. Due to its nature of following users actions, it must take a lot of things into consideration... and we cannot foresee how you would try to use it or what features you will find most important. So if you just want to play around a little and throw it aside, there is no point in requesting a build at this point yet.
Concerning pricing :
I don't know how the RT module will be implemented exactly. But : if it is aimed to enhance the workflow and allow rapid visualization of the result in the viewport (pretty much like modo's renderer) then it should come at no additional cost.
Now if it goes further than that, like for eg allowing to export standalone executables that allow to run walkthroughs on other machines, then it should be of course separately priced.

Well, for example, someone tried to maximize the 3ds Max window while the activeshade window was open in a viewport, which resulted in a crash. It would never have occured to me to even try this (I usually have the 3ds Max window maximized anyways). Another user tried to Reset the 3ds Max scene while the activeshade was open - again something that would not have occured to me... or right-clicking on the coordinate spinners in the status bar to reset the object at the origin... things like these
